Al-Quds Tours: The Edomite Kingdom & Cave Cities
AL QUDS TOURS
Jerusalem, from a Palestinian Perspective
The Edomite Kingdom & Cave Cities - Hebron
on Sunday 7 May @ 9 am - 6 pm
Meeting point: Turkish Consulate - Sheikh Jarrah
Patterns of Ancient Semitic Settlements in the Mount Hebron region and the ecological cultural adaptations that our ancestors had established over the past four millenia will be explored on this special lecture tour that will highlight Sa’eer, Dura, Kharas, Burj, Bet Mirsim and Dhahirieh; heirs to the Edomite Kingdom.
The Centre for Jerusalem Studies is organizing the tour with the anthropologist and Palestinian peasant specialist Dr. Ali Qleibo. We will visit villages and towns whose ancestors formed the main allies with the Roman Empire and whose children studied and trained in Rome itself. The Edomite kings fostered intensive alliances with the Nabateans on their Eastern frontier and produced great Kings such as Herod the Great.
On this tour we shall visit various sites associated with ancient Semitic religious practices, such as the sacred tree in Sa’eer, the sculpture of Doshara the deity in Dura, the sacred rocks in Khursa and visit the cave city of Dhahiriyeh…. Along the way we will make stops at various cave villages to examine the age old tradition of cave dwellings that survived until the mid nineteenth century. Time permitting we may visit Tuwani the remote but still inhabited cave village.
The tour includes transportation, guide, traditional Palestinian brunch of Ka’ek and falafel and traditional mount Hebron food.
