Understanding, Learning and Teaching the Holy Land – Palestine, Israel, and the Conflict in the Middle East

TEACHING COURSES on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Middle East

INTRODUCTION

The growing demand for courses on conflict resolution and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the peace process in campuses around the world is an encouraging trend. However, it also presents some challenges. Most universities and colleges do not have on their faculty professors who are experts on the topic and can thus teach such classes in an informed and unbiased manner that meet the most rigorous academic standards. We propose a program that would provide academic institutions with a tool to overcome this problem.

A NEW APPROACH

Peace studies and conflict resolution is a growing interdisciplinary field.      Today, 400 academic programs around the world offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees that prepare students for a wide variety of careers such as negotiators, mediators, government officials, educators, and scholars who   focus on conflict studies, peace building, conflict    resolution, environmental protection, international law, and human and economic development.
